WAAG In The Beginning
Wokingham Area Access Group was founded in 1998. Its initial members, including one local councilor, wanted better access to shops and services for the disabled and young mothers in the Wokingham Borough.
WAAG Today
Today, WAAG is made up of a small group of private individuals who, because of their own needs or circumstances, have a common interest in the improvement of accessibilty for the population of Wokingham Borough. The Wokingham Area Access Group meet every two months at the council offices, and new members are always welcome.
Who is helping us?
Wokingham Borough Council are active participants in our project. We are also grateful to newspapers in the Wokingham Borough for the interest they've shown, and for assistance with publicity.
How you can help
The WAAG award scheme gives recognition to those shops and services who are making an effort to improve accessibility to their premises. You can help us by letting us know of any premises you use which, in your view, has good access for disabled people or parents with pushchairs. You could also win £25, just for taking the time to make a nomination. For more on our award scheme please go to our awards page from the link on the left, or click here
